National Honor Society

                                       National Honor Society, Goldthwaite High School Chapter, 2010-2011


 
The GHS National Honor Society will focus on a theme entitled Secrets of Excellence for 2010-2011
    • meetings will center around Building Foundations and What’s In Store with monthly discussions regarding the following topics:
      • integrity
      • doing what is right (not cheating…)
      • service
      • leadership
      • how college is different that high school
 
Proposed Projects (mandatory for all members):
  • Cindy Hayes Memorial Canned Food Drive
    • NHS / Student Council combined project
    • NHS members will again be asked to contribute $10 or 20 cans of food
  • Read with Me
    • Go to GES three times this year (2 in fall – 1 spring)
    • Go to the Nursing Homes one time (recommended to do this in the late fall)
  • Relay for Life – Pennies for Life Fund Raising Campaign for the 2nd year
    • This will be designated as the NHS Spring Leadership Project
 
Other Projects discussed (will not be mandatory)
  • Mills County Ministerial Make A Wish Christmas sorting
  • Other activies asked by the community (meal services, etc)

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s oldest student recognition program designed to recognize and engage high school students around a selected group of criteria, namely Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. Four main purposes have guided chapters of NHS from the beginning: "To create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools." (from the NHS Constitution)
